The Information Project
This project is aimed at providing NGOs, civil activists, and other interested parties with comprehensive information and about functioning of democracy and the observance of human rights in Russia. The work is focused upon monitoring the mass media, preparing thematic reviews and compiling commentaries on current day political issues that are particularly relevant to civil society.
Project Outline
Since December 2004 the DEMOS Centre with the support of the Open Society Institute (New York) has been working on a project entitled “Independent Informational Resource for the Assistance to Protection of Democracy and Fundamental Freedoms in the Russian Federation.” The project represents an essential expansion of the center’s informational work.
Since January 2005 we have been distributing the results of our monitoring of electronic and printed publications as well as monthly reviews on the human rights and democratic situation in Russia. The Center’s website in itself serves as an independent resource of information about the democratic situation in Russia and provides regular up to date observations on the state of fundamental freedoms and human rights.
As the name suggests the information project focuses primarily on various aspects of the democratic situation in Russia, but at the same time we maintain close observation of all sectors of human rights work. A large scale survey was carried out during the specialist conference “The Human Rights Movement Today: Problems and Future Prospects”, the results of which will help us to improve the structure and content of our information digests so that they better provide for the needs and interests of our audience.
