Materials prepared by Russian NGOs for the sixth round of the consultations on human rights issues between Russian and the European Union
We introduce materials prepared by Russian NGOs for the sixth round of the consultations on human rights issues between Russian and the European Union, which took place in Brussels. The official consultations were scheduled for October 3, 2007; whereas meeting with the NGOs traditionally organized on the eve, October 2, 2007. Ten NGO activists represented Russian NGO community. The representatives had disseminated specially prepared materials, discussed data they are possessing and presented views they share on the general problems with human rights on the consultations' agenda and answered to questions of the official consultations participants.
Representatives of the international human rights organizations also took part in the consultations, such as International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, Amnesty International. The European Union was represented by the so-called "trinity" - currently chairing country, Portugal, future chairing country, Slovenia, and the European Commission. Unfortunately, there were no representatives of Russian government, who repeatedly refuse to participate in the NGO meeting.
